Wow! That takes me back to my days as a classified advertising manager. The first step, of course, would be to check with the advertiser about the joyful spelling. Hang on a sec... checking calendar... nope, it's not 1 April.

Ah, the youth of tomorrow are well taken care of.

When I was 17, and the snark was running high, I phoned the office of the Detroit Free Press.

"Hi, I'm calling about the job opening you have, for a copyeditor?"
"You must be mistaken. We don't need a copyeditor."
"Oh yes you do!"

Not surprisingly, he hung up on me.

Yeah, they sure did! I almost got used to the Freep inserting an apostrophe into the possessive "its" or using the wrong there/ their/ they're-- it happened so often-- but they really threw me when, circa 1994, an article used "weather" to mean "whether". Oi.

After making fun of them, I don't suppose you recall what district is so in need of substitutes? I'm currently out of work, and substitute teaching is not high on my list of temp prospects...but it can be a useful way for overeducated geeks to make a bit of money while doing something useful and looking for work. In some districts. The ones I've looked at close to home are sufficiently well supplied with teachers that they can require subs to have teaching experience or teaching-specialized education.

Heh. Reminds me of a time about 10-15 years ago when Boston cops were standing around Downtown Crossing and handing out political fliers. They were demanding higher pay, of course. There was a typo on EVERY line, so I couldn't resist writing a letter to the Globe about it. I suggested that the flier showed that the money for the pay raises would be better spent on the educational department, or on remedial spelling courses for the police.

The Globe liked that letter; they ran it three times, once on Sunday.
