What cons are people planning to go to for the rest of 2009?

I'm guessing that most of the MSP contingent have plans to be at Convivial 4 (Oct. 16-18), and some of the folks who usually make it to Penguicon have plans for ConClave 34 (Oct. 9-11)...and it's quite possible that there are people who're planning on both.

Right now my next planned con is Arisia 2010 (Jan. 15-18), but it's not completely silly to try to get to something between now and then.

Who's going to what, when, where? Philcon is probably too close to Thanksgiving for me to manage. What else am I missing?

I think the key is to know about the private, pre-arranged cabs and not take a cab stand cab. IIRC, the cab stand cab costs about $50 from ORD. Unfortunately, I don't have more info than that.

Perhaps the concom would know more.

VP (which is, as you know, Shark, not a con anymore) in early October.

I'm also thinking about a trip to the west coast to coincide with World Fantasy. I don't have to buy a con membership to go to room parties, do I? :)

Hopefully I will have a job by the time Boskone rolls around, which would be the next con (and the next Doyle/Macdonald kaffeeklatsch) I would expect to see you at.

I would definitely like to see you at Boskone. I won't be at VP (no surprise there what with the not being a writer thing) and have pretty much given up on WFC as a likely choice.

I can't see why I'd need to buy one. If I were the sort of gracious fellow to invite friends new or old to my hotel room at a con, I'd be *ahem* somewhat annoyed if the convention folks thought they had a say in whom I could invite.

Perhaps it's slightly different if you're on a party floor, but I didn't see anything like that at either Austin or Saratoga Springs, or any con I can remember going to.

Conclave will reunite the Bill and Barry Show for the first time in many years. Plus, Brother Guy is also a guest. He and I have sometimes done presentations together as well.

Windycon will have the Foglios, and a steampunk theme, this year. I'm working on a talk.

We expect to attend Confusion (Detroit) and Capricon (Chicago) in 2010. Beyond that, probably Minicon (Minneapolis).

Since I barely saw you at Worldcon, this makes Conclave (and/or Windycon) more interesting. (And Brother Guy, too...looks like the makings of a really good science track.)

This weekend, I will be at Fantasticon in Copenhagen, and in September I hope to be at Pentacon in Dresden. November sees Novacon in Nottingham, and a convention in Oslo.

I'm doing Convivial (on the concom, hmm, need to register myself). I don't think we have any cons after that until Minicon next year. I hope we can make Fourth Street, we'll definitely make Duckon in Chicago (since I'm Fan GoH).

As you guessed, I'm planning to be at Convivial, but that's the only con I have left this year! Next year's plans: I may possibly go to Supercon (Rochester, MN), then Minicon, then 4th Street, then hopefully Farthing Party, then Convivial again. (I used to go to Convergence, but this year I decided it wasn't worth what they were charging, even at the year-in-advance rate).

CONvergence is one I've never made it to since it's right before Readercon, though I may make an exception next year if it lets me get together with enough folks who won't be at Readercon for whatever reasons. (Though two back-to-back four day conventions could be a bit much for this aging carcass.) I'd still want to get to at least one of Minicon and Fourth Street, but there are some timing reasons[1] to pick CONvergence.

[1] It could be a Scalzi-at-Penguicon sort of thing, though without the surprise aspects. Y'see, next year I'll be celebrating John Simm's 40th birthday during Readercon, though without him being involved in any way beyond the coincidental. I'm serious about the aging carcass comment....

Hmm. Looking at the calendar that netmouse just mentioned, I had forgotten that Fourth Street is as late in June as it is; it's the week before CONvergence, so just two weeks before Readercon...and two weeks is less than 0.1% of 40 years. So that's okay.

That means that Fourth Street is now much more likely, and CONvergence almost certainly a no-go. (There's no way I can do 2.5[1] away-cons back to back like that, even if I stayed in MSP over the intervening week; it was bad enough the year Arisia/Vericon/Boskone hit in a 4 week period, without the travel.)

[1] Readercon: close enough to not really be out of town, far enough that I still can't commute.
