I'll also use fairmer's "italics indicate proximity without a real meeting" addition; most of those are "were both in the same very large room at the same time at some con". Apologies for any mistakes I've managed to make on this list; as pnh put it, feel free to give me a whap upside the head. Some people are posting this as a pre-Interthingy post; I'm not, since I won't be there. (This keeps my unbroken string of always attending any Worldcon I can walk to, and never attending one that I can't.)

Man, how sad is it that three people on my friends list are me? Beryllos is my photo-blog, EJ Brontë and Francie Hodgson are my characters at Negability.

I find it hard to believe there are people who have been reading my journal in one form or another for nine years and we still haven't met.

I have someone I consider a close friend and confidante who has been reading my journal for four years now, and whom I've never met. For awhile I kept thinking, "But what if she isn't really like that?" But of course she's like that; she's ksumnersmith. (It helps that we have mutual friends in person who can verify that yes, we are both really like that.) We talk on the phone now occasionally.

We spent some time having a nice conversation at the end of the LJ party at Minicon this past year. Among other things, you told me about the guy who was used to measure the bridge in Boston, and the fact that they reproduced the markings when they resurfaced/rebuilt the bridge.
