OMG YES: Black Panther, Wrinkle in Time, Ocean's Eight, Pacific Rim Uprising, Death of Stalin, Dark Phoenix, Into the Spider-Verse, Widows
QUALIFIED MAYBE: Red Sparrow (Aka "Totes Not Black Widow"), Tomb Raider, Proud Mary, Annihilation, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Aquaman, The Lodgers, Chappaquiddick, The Little Stranger, House with a Clock in its Walls, Crooked House, Molly's Game, The Post, The Bell Jar
HELL NO: Infinity Wars, Ready Player One, New Mutants, Deadpool sequel (I LOATHE Deadpool), Venom, whatever number of Cloverfield hot mess we're on now
Oh /interesting/. Not sure about Jack Black as Uncle Jonathan, but Cate Blanchett would work. And Kyle Maclachlan as Isaac Izard! Potentially very neat. Thank you!
Looking forward to Black Panther (though I'm not as familiar with the character as I should be), Infinity War, Ant Man and the Wasp, Deadpool II. And whatever Netflix comes up with next provided that Iron Fist's involvement is kept to a minimum.
drwex is kind enough to share his favorite trailers with me on Fridays if there are any worthy. I'm emphatic about seeing Pacific Rim in the theater. Black Panther, for sure.
The rest? ::shrug:: I'll get there eventually. I'm grateful Netflix has expanded the new releases to streaming. Mind you, if I wait long enough on the physical DVD service (I bailed last year when I had nothing in my queue I wanted to see) I can reseed my queue. :) Maybe with something besides an action flick? That'd be nice.
*wave* I'm _super_ stoked for Black Panther. It looks cool on its own and that they chose to feature him in the Avengers trailer makes me STOOPIDLY happy.
Pacific Rim for sure.
Avengers... I'm playing "guess who dies" in my head. It's pretty clear they need to evolve this series in order to bring in some new characters and gin up more fan excitement.
My current short list: Vision - dies (he's an android and can go back to being Jarvis) Cap - retires, probably to Wakanda where people can't bother him anymore Thor - Ascends. Needed to lead the Asgardians. Hulk - almost certainly can't be killed, but has already wandered off once, likely to do so again Iron Man - stays, but with someone else in the suit
Bring in Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and... I dunno. It's thin and they haven't spent enough time establishing more options. Spider Man in theory could but he's a kid, and the new trailer for Ant Man makes it look like he's going to get in trouble again, so not so much Avenger material. Winter Soldier could, but if Cap's gone he's not going to hang around.
So you'd have Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther, and ... ?
Hahaha, this is how I feel too. I don't care much about any other movie. But Black Panther!!!!! Eleventy! I have all the Ta-Nehisi Coates comic books! I have made at least ten other people read them! (I lived in DC around the time that he describes in "Between the World And Me", and wow, that book. I have loved him ever since.)
I did read World of Wakanda, but had not heard about the second set! Thanks for letting me know that I had still more to read! I am delighted and appreciative.
I may try to see it at the Cinerama just to give it the true big screen justice. (Not that my local theater, the Majestic Bay, is exactly bad...but the CINERAMA.)
Nothing is hitting all my OMG YES MUST SEE buttons but there's a pleasant amount of "oh, that looks pretty great." Death of Stalin, Wrinkle in Time, Black Panther, Ocean's 8, maybe Tomb Raider. Miffed that Proud Mary has come and gone from theatres already.
I don't go to see very many movies. Infinity War is a near-certainty. A Wrinkle in Time and Dark Phoenix are very likely. New Mutants and Solo are possibles, depending on what initial reviews sound like.
Just this last weekend I went to see The Great Society at the Alley Theatre. It was pretty gut-wrenching, despite that I already knew the outline of how things had to go. (Slightly off-topic for a post about movies, I admit.)
I will go to see Black Panther. I have not seen ANY of the Marvel movies yet, but I want to support that one.
Also, OMG there appear to be seriously hot women in there kicking ass and I wish to see more of THAT please, yes and thank you.
I will also be going to see A Wrinkle In Time because that is a childhood book and it looks (from the trailers) like they have NOT severely fubared it. Fingers crossed. (They won't be able to make Many Waters, though, that's just not gonna happen.)
As a fan of the 80s runs of various Marvel comics, I was skeptical about movies ever getting the characters "right". Then they announced that Iron Man was going to have Robert Downey, Jr and I said "well, if anyone can play an arrogant rich white guy with a substance abuse problem HE can" so I gave it a look and was very pleasantly surprised.
I've skipped a few of them (should probably go back and at least try Ant-Man, though I may never bother with Thor 2) but I think on the whole the franchise has done well (except for still not giving us a Black Widow movie, grr).
The way they've managed to get different directorial styles for different characters (Branagh and Waititi for Thor, Johnston and the Russos for Captain America, Gunn for the Guardians of the Galaxy) while still being able to cross over between the movies is pretty impressive, IMO.
