Princess Bride Quotes

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech. (via [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue)

Man in Black: "Why are you smiling?"
Inigo: "I know something you don't know."
Man in Black: "And what is that?"
Inigo: "I am not left-handed."

I think TPB is possibly the most quotable movie ever, in that almost every single speaking part has at least one memorable quote. (I'm not sure the mother has any really quotable lines, but she's the only exception I can think of.)

"That's nice, dear."

I love that movie. You know what I found to be oddly similar in character? Stardust. Hmmm... if there's no baseball on, maybe that's what I'll watch in early labor.

Does the Albino have any good lines? Also, the brute doesn't really have anything good.

But those are just the exceptions that prove the rule, as they say.

Whenever someone in my house has a cold, we take advantage of it to do the Albino's, "The pit of des...[cough cough cough]. The pit of despair."

That is awesome!

Which brute? Fezzik?

"I've mostly been fighting groups, recently, you know, fight a local gang for charity, that sort of thing."

And, yes, the Albino has, "You're in the PIT OF DISPA. . . [hack, cough] -- sorry, pit of dispair."

Miracle Max: "Go away or I'll call the Brute Squad!"
Giant: "I'm on the Brute Squad."
Miracle Max (looking up): "You are the Brute Squad!"

"Don't pester him. He's had a hard day."

Valerie: Good luck!
Max: Have fun storming the castle!
Valerie: Think they can do it?
Max: It'd take a miracle.

I have two that I can't really decide between...

"Mawwaige. Mawwiage... is wot bwings us togevver today. Mawwiage... that bwessed awwangement, that dweam wivvin a dweam..."

"You keep using that word! I do not think it means what you think it means!"

Yes, I was using that last line a lot during the Dr. Who season finale - basically every time Davros said something.,..

Ok, that's not my favourite quote. But it's near lunchtime, so it's what came to mind.

I don't know that I have a favourite quote TPB is good for quoting on all occasions!

[identity profile] argonel.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not a witch I'm your wife. And after that comment I'm not I want to be that anymore"

Although there are so many really great quotes that I can't honestly choose a favorite.

There is also "Do you hear that princess, those are the shieking eels, and they always get louder just before they strike."

Vizinni: Inconceivable!
Inigo: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I agree it's really, really quotable and full of great lines.

My heart, however, belongs to Movie Movie. "The real winner tonight was Love. It wasn't the State that sent Vincent Marlowe to his death... it was Love!"

I dunno; I think Real Genius and Casablanca are up there among the most quotable movies as well.

[identity profile] lbmango.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They're certainly up there for the quotability of their quotable lines, but for sheer percentage of lines which are quotable? I think TPB wins.

In other words, if you take the average quotability of lines in those three movies which are quotable AT ALL (ie, eliminate quotability < epsilon), then Casablanca probably wins. But if you take the average quotability over ALL lines in the movie, I think TPB wins.

If you just sum up all of the quotability values, then I don't know, because then length of movie becomes relevant.

Yes, I'm over-analyzing. that's what this user-icon means.

Are you familiar with George Carlin's method for reducing violence in movies? It works rather scarily well with TPB.

[identity profile] timprov.livejournal.com 2008-10-11 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He suggested that you replace any instances of the word "kill" with the word "fuck."
