Another Music Meme Comes 'Round
Though I didn't see anyone tag me specifically, seeing
jmhm,
pnh, and
papersky post it was enough to hook me (and
papersky did say "I'm not tagging people, but if anyone wants to do it, please do").
What is the total volume of musical files on your computer?
11,172 songs; 30:02:04:17 total time; 39.34 GB
What song are you listening to right now?
James Taylor, "Sweet Potato Pie"
Last CD you bought?
Five For Fighting, "The Battle For Everything"
Five songs you listen to a lot and which mean something to you:
"Everybody Hurts" (Unplugged) - The Corrs
Not to say that I don't like the original R.E.M. version, because it's also one of my favorite songs; this cover, however, is even better. The original has a fairly "minimally produced" sound, but the combination of totally-acoustic instrumentation and Andrea Corr's vocals just drives the emotional power of the song that much more into me. They originally sang it at a benefit concert after the Omagh bombing, and again for "Unplugged".
"Wonder" - Natalie Merchant
The best summation I've ever heard of the potential inherent in every person I've heard, and it's delivered in less than four and a half minutes (okay, just over five and a half for the "Live in Concert" version).
"The Only Living Boy In New York" - Simon & Garfunkel / Everything But The Girl
Both versions are high on my "most played" list, and combined may be the single most-played song in my iTunes library. One of my "loss and longing" songs (along with Lisa Loeb's "Stay").
"Something So Right" - Paul Simon / Annie Lennox
The Paul Simon version is a classic, and Annie Lennox managed to redo it 20+ years later with the spirit intact. This one encapsulates much of my worldview on relationships. "It's apt to confuse me, because it's such an unusual sight."
"Birdhouse In Your Soul" (honorable mention: "Particle Man") - They Might Be Giants
This reminds me of my senior year in college; Flood was one of the CDs I listened to incessantly then, and still enjoy now. Humor with a good beat.
Incidentally, thosefive six songs account for 20 distinct tracks in my iTunes library, what with live versions, covers, remixes, and the like.
